Gatefall News

Hi, everyone.

I played a game of Gatefall last night with the official board and dice and tokens (character boards and action cards are still being printed), and here is what I learned:

People are going to be very, VERY disappointed that they missed out on getting Seline and Piggy forever. I am going to hear it for years.

Having the extra characters to think about and look at and plug into your strategy adds so much to the game, and reinforces how expandable the system is.

Over time, we can add barriers, environmental hazards, buildings (like a gold mine or healing tent), character synergy/combo attacks, and all kinds of things. And the base game is the perfect ratio of simple/complex for my tastes and where I want this game to land with people of all skill levels.

I played last night with someone who plays ZERO games ever. Like... not even Uno. And she was good to go in one turn. After about 3 minutes of explaination. And she was way WAY into it after her first roll. Gatefall lets you learn as you go, and grow into its complexity with each turn. Players are not bombarded with rules and concepts from the jump. And I love that.

This game is a fantastic game to get all types of people to the table, which is exactly what I wanted from it. And over time we can expand it to get insanely and optionally complex with even more depth, allowing you to dial in those things according to your comfort level. That was what I went for when I created the first modular party game, and that is what we are going to achieve with Gatefall.

Speaking of the game's future: I will have some really exciting news soon about Chapter Two AND some news about and entirely new set of figures that may be coming between Chapters One and Two. I hope to launch both sets this year if things go well with Chapter One.

CORONA VIRUS UPDATE

I am still waiting to hear from the factory about expected delays caused by government quarantines in China. I will keep you updated when I hear what is what.

SURVEYS

Surveys were sent out last month to collect your shipping info and payment for shipping. I will leave that open until 2/21 before locking all payments.

THANK YOU

As always, I am very grateful for all of your support and enthusiasm. I appreciate you.

More soon,

Jack

Early February Update!
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 06, 2020 at 04:45:27 PM

Hey, everyone!

Just a reminder that the pledge manager is open. If you can't find the email, head here:

https://gatefall.backerkit.com/

Make sure to check the email address you use for Kickstarter, which could be (and often is) an old email address.

The factory is still out for Lunar New Year, and they return next week. So I'm hoping for some more news about shipping dates then.

I've also rebooted the Facebook presence of my studio because tabletop people sure seem to love Facebook. It's a good place to see smaller things that might not make it into an update. Check it out.

Or:

Instagram here.

Twitter here.

Thanks a lot, and more in a bit!

So the box just got here.
over 4 years ago – Thu, Jan 23, 2020 at 02:03:10 AM

I am so sorry for the update spam, but the Gatefall box just got here, and I think this will help people get their heads around the size of this thing and the shipping stuff. Objects for scale (AND VIBE).

LOOK HOW BIG THIS THING IS.

I absolutely love it. The finish and everything is gorgeous. It's a monster of a box. Almost twice as high as Betrayal. Even I didn't expect it to be this big, but seeing it for the first time is insane.

It's big.

Thanks sorry thanks,

Jack

About Shipping Rates (ALSO: SURVEYS SENT!)
over 4 years ago – Thu, Jan 23, 2020 at 01:33:12 AM

Hey, everyone. Sorry for the update flood this week, but I need to put this note here about the increased shipping rates:

Most shipping rates ended up being higher than expected. The box ended up being a lot heavier and bigger than early estimates, and some international (and domestic) rates changed in 2020. If the new cost is too high for you, I can back your pledge out and refund it to you. I don't make any money on shipping (I lose money on it), so that's all I can realistically do. But believe me when I say I spent a very long time and a lot of effort finding the best fulfillment solution for everyone.

Shipping is the absolute WORST part of Kickstarters because it is so hard to pin down a number like this almost a year in advance. Especially on a very new thing. So thank you all for your patience and understanding with this stuff.

All of the surveys have been sent out. Let me know here in the comments if I messed anything up. I probably did. BackerKit is really cool, but there were a lot of levers to pull and buttons to press. Chances are very good than I missed one.

Thanks again!
