Why is this game so inexpensive?

I am using the success of my previous games to help you help me make this game. You aren’t doing all of the lifting this time. That would have driven the price too high here, and I have always seen this as the place to get my work for less than it will cost everyone later, with things that will never be available again.

Will there be stretch goals?

My approach is to make the game as inexpensive as I can for backers while making the game as great as I can. For example: the second exclusive figure could have been a stretch goal. Or better components, etc. But I unlock everything at the beginning. I also don’t want to promise things that slow fulfillment down. So yeah, great game and great price from the jump instead.

I also focus more on the exclusives in the absence of stretch goals, which is a method I have grown to like.

Will the minis be high quality?

The sculpts are the focus of this game. They are what you look at and touch while you think about the character and their place in the game and their world (or someone else’s world). It is very important to me that they are done right. The current price is based on a quote from a reputable manufacturer. I have ordered prototypes of these figures, and will be sure to work with the manufacturer to ensure that they are amazing figures.

What are the plans for the game's future?

This is Chapter One of Gatefall. Chapter Two will introduce two more worlds, and individual expansion characters will be created to build out your teams. Gameplay will evolve eventually to larger maps, different terrain, and all of the complexity itches that many people love to scratch. Well after this campaign finishes and this game is in your hands.

Can I see a gameplay video?

I know the current Kickstarter standard involves huge companies showing you videos of celebrities playing their games. But I am not one of those companies. I use Kickstarter the way it is meant to be used. To make things. So the thing does not exist until after Kickstarter. At least not in a final or physical form. All of the testing was done with prototypes over the last 10 years. Some of them were physical, and some were digital. And all of them were ugly. Because they were testing prototypes that focused on function.

Design is a big part of this game. I want to have as much control over your visual relationship with it and its world as possible. So I don’t show the ugly boards and ugly cards being used. I focus on a clean and well-written video that covers all of the basics, then answer the questions I can about specific rules. Because the game does not exist yet, a lot can change. So my answers can seem limited. That is because I prefer to only comment on elements of the game that I am fairly certain will not change. That way we can all be on the same page about what the game is.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
